Pulling the World Power
Dept. of Embedded System Engineering
An embedded system refers to an advanced electronic system in which software and hardware are closely coupled, such as smart phones, smart home appliances, automobiles, and robots, that consume less electricity and process the desired motion quickly and accurately. In our department, we train engineers who breathe life into embedded systems by teaching them the software, hardware, and artificial intelligence knowledge needed to develop these systems.
Embedded technology is a technology that adds intelligent software to various objects that surround us.
It is crucial to create a connected world where computing can be used anytime and anywhere, such as smart devices, automobiles, unmanned aerial vehicles (drones), and the Internet of Things (IoT).
Embedded systems are advanced electronic systems tightly integrated with software and hardware to perform intended operations quickly, precisely, and accurately while using little energy.
We offer specialized courses that combine sufficient theoretical knowledge with practical skills centered on industry demands, aiming to foster global talent with the ability to design and develop integrated software for embedded systems.
The curriculum includes many essential courses to become an embedded engineer, such as embedded system design technology, embedded software design technology, sensor and control engineering, communication and network technology, and image processing technology.
The curriculum is also systematically structured to maximize software development capabilities by combining and using programming languages required for converged software development, such as C and JAVA, through various disciplines.
For many years, this curriculum has enabled us to rank at the top in departmental evaluations at Incheon National University. Our students who have developed practical skills have also consistently received excellent results in national competitions.
What are Embedded Systems?
With our program, students can learn the knowledge needed to develop these systems, focusing on software and hardware, and become engineers who can deliver embedded systems to life.
What do students learn in the Dept. of Embedded-Systems Engineering?
The importance of embedded systems has been increasing steadily in recent years, as they have become essential to make products such as smart devices, unmanned aerial vehicles, and autonomous vehicles intelligent.
The industry needs highly qualified, convergent software engineers who understand embedded systems.
We train our students to become the practical, hands-on talent that industries require.
What kind of job will students have after graduation?
In software, students usually develop software programs, while in hardware, they design and build the circuits of devices.
Recently, there has been a dramatic increase in the number of software jobs, but a number of other fields are becoming increasingly popular.
The graduates of our department work in various IT companies and research centers.
They may be involved in the development of the latest smartphones at large companies such as Samsung Electronics and LG Electronics, develop precision semiconductor equipment at companies such as Hanmi Semiconductor, or research new solutions at companies such as Naver, Daum, Samsung SDS, LG CNS, and SK C&C. SMEs conduct research and development on a broader range of products in our daily lives, including security systems such as CCTV cameras, navigation systems, mobile communication systems, and high-tech devices such as semiconductor manufacturing equipment.
In addition to these companies, if you are interested in research, you can also work at specialized national research institutes such as the Electronics and Telecommunications Research Institute and the Electronic Components Research Institute.
These specialized research institutes often require more than a master's degree from a graduate school like ours.
According to a survey, only 40% of university graduates in Korea get a job that corresponds to their major.
However, our graduates have a nearly 100% correspondence rate, meaning there are plenty of career opportunities for our students to utilize their major knowledge.
What makes the Dept. of Embedded-Systems Engineering unique compared to other departments?
In 2012, we were awarded the best department at Incheon National University, which means that we excel in many areas, such as graduate employment rate, faculty research ability, and student satisfaction.
- We are ranked top among all departments at Incheon National University in terms of average employment rate over the past 3 years, which means that the graduates are highly qualified and well suited to the industries and fields demanded by companies.
- Excellent teaching and research capabilities are essential in delivering the latest technology. The development of IT technology is much faster than in other fields, so professors need to learn and research new technologies and methods constantly. Therefore, their research skills are critical to the quality of knowledge they teach their students.
- Our student satisfaction rates are exceptionally high compared to other departments. Satisfaction is an essential criterion for department evaluation because it reflects students' pride and needs for their field of study.
- We have a 1:1 PC assigned to each student to provide a better learning environment.
In most universities, there is no such thing as a " homeroom " or individual seats.
Students move from lecture hall to lecture hall depending on their course and often need help finding a decent place to study.
Our program guarantees students their own computer and a reserved seat 24/7 for all 4 years.
Students don't have to search for a seat in the library. They can study in a supportive environment, with access to the department's state-of-the-art equipment.
Students who stay up late to discuss assignments with classmates and create cutting-edge work with new technologies are common in our department.
This is because they have a solid commitment to their goals.
